Why am I being scanned?

You've probably seen our scanner in your logs, identified as SDL-SafetyGradeBot. Here's exactly what that is.

What it is

Someone asked our free tool for a safety grade of a URL on your domain. Our scanner made a small number of ordinary, unauthenticated web requests — the same kind any visitor's browser makes — to read your public response headers and the content you already serve. It does not log in, does not probe for vulnerabilities, and does not send anything designed to test or break your site.

How it behaves

  • It identifies itself with a clear User-Agent linking to this page.
  • It is rate-limited per domain, so it can't be pointed at your site to generate a flood of traffic.
  • Repeated scans of the same domain are served from a short-lived cache rather than re-fetching you.

Opt out

If you'd rather we didn't scan your domain, email [email protected] with the domain and we'll add it to our exclusion list. You can also block the SDL-SafetyGradeBot User-Agent — we'll respect a block.

We take the traffic our scanner generates seriously. If something we did looked abusive, tell us — we want to know. Safety Grade is a product of Shah Data Labs.
